The leaves are slowly starting to change, there are teases of cooler weather, the stores are decked out for fall / halloween and pumpkin spice is everywhere. The Fall season is here and it is a super popular time for family photos. One of the most popular questions and biggest stressors for mom, is what to wear. Here are some tips for what to wear for Fall Family Photos.
Comfort
You want to look and feel your best the day of your photo session. To do that, you need to be comfortable. That goes for the entire family. If your daughter hates dresses, don’t fight over it or force it. Otherwise you will have one uncomfortable miserable kiddo and that’s not what you want for your pictures. Do your prefer flats over heels? Than wear flats! If you’re uncomfortable, it will show.
Coordinate, Don’t Match
Do you remember the entire family in khaki and white shirt trend or some other matchy matchy outfit? While you don’t want every one in the family in crazy patterns, subtle coordinating patterns on one or two people look great. Don’t be afraid of a plaid shirt or floral dress. Just make sure the colors coordinate and neither are too crazy.
Warmth
Fall is a great time of year, but if your session lands on a chilly day, make sure everyone (especially the kiddos) are dressed warm enough. If you try to push a light shirt that won’t keep them warm, they will be miserable the entire session…and it will show. It goes back to the first point of comfort, being cold is not comfortable.
Colors of the Season
Make sure the colors you choose go with the season. For Fall sessions think maroon, navy, deep oranges, mustard and neutral shades like browns and beiges. To help my families look their best, I created a Pinterest board specifically for fall photo sessions. It has lots of ideas for color combos and even examples of patterns.
