Memorial Weekend is in less than 8 weeks and that means South Jersey beach season will soon be upon us. For a lot of moms (me included) that also means our least favorite part of summer…bathing suit season. While I have to refrain myself from buying more swim suits for my girls, I need to force myself to shop for swim wear. But this year, I’m taking a new approach. There are so many amazing options out there, I’m now thinking of shopping for beach attire as shopping for that perfect little black dress. Keep reading for my tips on what to wear to the beach for moms!
COMFORT
When I’m asked about what to wear for Beach Day Sessions or Family Sessions, my number one piece of advice is to be comfortable. When you’re looking for the perfect little black dress, you want something that makes you feel like a million buck. To do that, you need to be comfortable in the design. So the first step is find out what kind of swim wear you feel best in. If you are comfortable in a bikini…rock it. If you feel better in a tankini…awesome. Want a one piece…go for it! Prefer to wear a cover up..sounds good to me!
Swim Wear Options
Whichever style of swim wear you decide there are even more options to choose from for tops to bottoms. For tops it’s not just about bikini or tankini, you can choose strappy, plunge, scoop, high neck, blousy, etc. Going back to comfort, to look and feel your best, you need to find the style that makes you feel like you’re putting on that black dress. These days, there is something for everyone, you just have to shop around for it and try things on! This year I’m looking at Athleta’s blousy or high neck tankini.
For bottoms, you can choose from high waisted, different levels of bottom coverage, shorts, and even skirts! My advice is to try things on and see which style fits you the best and gives you that…I look awesome feeling.
Cover ups
If you feel more comfortable being a little more covered on the beach, then cover ups are the way to go. And again, the options are endless. Cover ups can really be a little black dress or even something like a romper. And they’re great for walking to and from the beach.
Be Kind & Be Patient
With so many options to choose from, be patient finding the swim wear that makes you feel like you just slipped on that little black dress. It’s easy to find faults in ourselves when trying swim wear on, but I encourage you to change those negative thoughts to positive ones. You may try a suit on that you doesn’t make you feel great, and that’s totally normal…don’t buy it. But see if you can find one thing you love about it on you to help you on your journey to finding your “little black dress” of swim wear. Maybe you don’t like the way the top fits at all, but the color is amazing. Maybe you like the bikini but want a higher neck. Be kind to yourself and be patient.
