At a family or just the kid photo session I will get your “Holiday Card” picture…you know the one…everyone smiling and looking at the camera. But that’s not my why behind photography and this venture. It’s not for the, “oh my goodness look how great this picture is, everyone is smiling and looking at the camera”. My why photography, is because photography can elicit emotions and memories. I want you to look at your pictures and feel something now and in 20 plus years. I want you to look at the picture and have an emotional response (a smile, a feeling of love, a memory, a feeling of that’s exactly who my child is at this age…stubborn, playful, emotional, silly, etc).
Life As It Once Was
That picture of everyone smiling will look great on your your card, in a frame or on your wall. But, in 20 years when you look at it, will you feel something, will you be brought back to that moment in time, to all those feelings you were having at that point in your life. Will it bring back memories of what your child was like at that age? That’s why I love photography. That’s why photography matters. It captures life as it once was.
Life Moves Fast
It captures memories and moments you can’t explain in words or recreate. It captures laughs and smiles, 2 new little baby teeth to missing two top teeth, baby curls and crazy hair, freckles and dimples and how small they once fit in your arms. Life moves fast. And photos give us the ability to go back and feel those fast moving moments we now or will soon long for. These photos aren’t just for you, your kids will look back on them to show their kids who YOU were and share their memories of growing up.
Beauty Behind the Chaos
When you have your family photos taken this year, don’t stress about making sure everyone behaves or smiles for the camera. Relax, have fun and just let the photographer capture life as is. I promise you will see the beauty and love behind the chaos and that is what you will want to look back on and remember.
